Boucher, Morkel inspirational in aiding him to produce top-performance, says Dala
Mark Boucher, the Multiply Titans coach, and Morné Morkel, a national fast bowler, has had an inspirational impact on him in the Momentum One Day Cup, says Junior Dala, the Man of the Match in the 109-run bonus-point win against the bizhub Highveld Lions at SuperSport Park.
The Multiply Titans beat the BuildNat Cape Cobras by 158 runs on Friday and produced a second successive comprehensive victory on Sunday with Dala in rampant form.
Dala and Eldred Hawken produced a phenomenal opening burst and caused a bizhub Highveld Lions top-order implosion.
The young spearhead took 3-21 and was responsible for the demise of the Lions, who collapsed from 33 without loss to 52 for five.
“Mark has had a calming influence on my bowling. He has told me that with my type of action I am going to get it wrong a few times, but I must not be too hard on myself and I must just get it right the next delivery,” says Dala
“My job, he said, was to run in and take wickets. Of course economy is important, but there are other bowlers who can keep it tight, like Albie Morkel.”
“Morné suggested small changes to my run-up. He said I must not be so static at the start of my run-up. He said maybe I can turn around and run onto the marker at the start of my run-up
“Those subtle changes helped to improve my rhythm and consistency,” adds Dala
Dala says he was not unduly unhappy with his bowling against the Hollywoodbets Dolphins who beat the Titans by five wickets in the 50-over competition’s opening match.
“I conceded 20 runs in my first six overs. It was just in my last over that Rob Frylinck got stuck into me - my rhythm is good.
“The past two seasons I have been amongst the top five wicket-taking bowlers in South Africa. I want to set high standards and aim at finishing as close to the top as possible this season.”
