The Multiply Titans and Standard Bank Proteas opener will feature for the Northerners after the conclusion of the upcoming Australia Test Series. Markram will arrive at Emirates Stadium at the start of the four-day competition, and will be available for four Division Two matches against Kent, Leicestershire, Northants and Derbyshire.
The 23-year-old, made made his Test debut earlier this summer against Bangladesh, averages 52 in six Tests, having scored two hundreds and two fifties. He also captained the Standard Bank Proteas in the recent Momentum One-Day International Series against India, in the absence of the injured Faf du Plessis.
With a first-class average of 47.73, the top order batsman believes the opportunity of playing in English conditions can only benefit his game as he aims to fully establish himself in the national side.
“I am absolutely delighted to be joining the club,” said Markram. “It’s will be a great opportunity to learn about English conditions. They have great structures at Durham and I’m really looking forward to the prospect of playing county cricket for the first time.”

There are a lot of positives I will be looking to gain from this experience and there’s no better opportunity to learn, than by exposing yourself to the conditions at a young age."
